I’m minoring in Entrepreneurship.
I have the opportunity to study in Florence, Italy next fall.
PROBLEM:
Because I will be in Florence next fall I would not be able to take my previously planned minor classes [MKT 300 and FIN 300] in the fall. My hopes were to possibly take these classes in Cincinnati during the summer so that I can stay on track with my minor. However, this has been deemed impoh see blay by the man in charge for the entrepreneurship minor. So, now what can I do? I can find a place to live in BG for the summer and take summer classes here. [1,000 for housing and 3,000 for classes = too much]
So now I’m faced with the dilemma to either: Not go to SACI and retain my minor. OR. Drop my minor and be normal like 90% of the other graphic design majors. So the catch 22 of it all is that if i’m not longer going to minor in entrepreneurship, then I should drop the minor classes I’m in now [even though I’m five weeks in] and lessen my work load to focus on my design and art studios. However, if for some reason SACI doesn’t work out [In terms of coming up with that much money to pay for it] and I do end up dropping the courses I’m in now, It wouldn’t be possible to continue with my minor.
So I ask you guys, Do I drop the minor? Is a minor truly that important? What would you guys do in my situation?
Gracias,
JMart
Sup JMiZZ,
Here’s my solution.. why don’t you finish out with your minor, finish out with your design degree (we don’t have THAT much longer in essence), obtain a kick-ass BFA degree with a minor in Entrepreneurship, and THEN go to Italy (having more complete knowledge of business, marketing, and design) and study on your own or in some kind of Graduate Program (MFA), or see how you like the Entrepreneurship scene in Italy as opposed to America.
You can Thank Me Later Bro:-)
Peace
IMHO, what you know is more important that what something is categorized as. So, take classes where you learn about business if you want to learn about business. This knowledge will help you in the long run, even if you don’t have a “true” minor.
Oh James, James James James.
You know what my reply is, STAY IN BG! Don’t leave me.
But, this is not a question that someone else can answer for you, ya dig? This is a truly personal situation. I want you to do what is best for you, and if that is having a minor, so be it, and if its going to Italy, so be it. No knowledge or experience is a waste, you should be able to pull something out of every situation.
But let it be known, I will not only be sad if you go to Italy on my last semester here, I will be HIGHLY HIGHLY jealous.
Tough decision, I would go to Italy. But I agree with Amy, you should take as many classes in business as you can for the experience, and then go to italy. you can always credit yourself for taking those classes when looking for a job even if you don’t have a true minor.
James man your leaving? Well i think while you are in Florence you should send some photos . Make sure to make the most out of this trip. I have been to argentina but was only there for ten days and got to see a lot. You will regret it if you arent doing something everyday. Have fun buddy!
Hey man. I guess it really depends how into the minor you really are. If you’re having doubts, then I would really reconsider so you don’t mess up your Graphic Design path. If it was me, I would certainly not try to kill myself. I would rather have a lot of knowledge, effort and good work in one area, rather than have a mediocre experience with average work in two different areas. But that’s just me. Whatever you decide to do, good luck dude.
